Speech-Language Pathology Services Specializing in Pragmatic
Language Development |
| Children's
Language Development Center specializes in the
rehabilitation of children with language delays,
articulation problems and communication disorders. We use a
multi-sensory approach to help children discover how to use
all forms of communication including words, eye gaze, body language, gestures, and facial
expressions. We specialize in children who have failed
to develop language or who are having difficultly learning
the pragmatics (social meaning) of language. |

|
Our
Approach |
|
An emphasis on pragmatics (meaning) helps children
understand how words and other cues are used to
communicate as well as promoting the development of
language skills. |

| Pragmatic
Language Disorders |
|
A child's ability to use
language affects their ability to learn, develop friendships, and
interact with the world. At CLDC we help children develop meaningful,
spontaneous language, learn how to communicate effectively with others,
and understand cultural norms of behavior. |

Who We Serve |
|
Children with Language Delays |
|
If a child is not using meaningful speech or if their speech
is like that of a much younger child, pragmatic speech
therapy can help put language development back on track. |
|
|
Children with Dysfluency |
|
If a child speaks in a halting manner or stutters
frequently, intervention can help improve fluency. |
|
|
Children with Autism or PDD |
|
Children who are on the autistic spectrum may have not
developed language or may have severely delayed language
skills. By using pragmatic language techniques paired
with sign language we help children develop meaningful,
spontaneous language. |

| Children with Hearing
Loss or CAPD |
|
Whether a child is having difficulty hearing due to a
sensorineural hearing loss or an auditory processing
disorder, we can help them learn to better understand
and use oral language. |
